Deep Dive: The Club Championship and the Numbers
The Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 moved from Riyadh to Paris, announced on 20 May as a response to “the current regional situation” (EWC announcement). It ran from 6 July to 23 August 2026, with first matches on 2 July, mainly at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles (EWC attendee guide). Counter-Strike 2 moved its finals to the 20,000-seat Accor Arena because of ticket demand (Euronews). Riyadh hosts again in 2027.
The top five clubs by Club Championship points (Inven Global):
| Rank | Club | Points | Prize (US$) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | AG.AL | 5,300 | 7,000,000 |
| 2 | Team Falcons | 4,600 | 5,000,000 |
| 3 | Team Vitality | 3,300 | 4,000,000 |
| 4 | Natus Vincere | 2,950 | 3,000,000 |
| 5 | Team Liquid | 2,700 | 2,000,000 |
AG.AL’s title ended Team Falcons’ run as champion. It was decided late, when AG.AL’s Gwen won the Trackmania final (EWC week 7 recap). The announced prize pool was a record US$75 million across 24 games and 25 tournaments; we found no report of the total actually distributed.
Attendance and viewership: two sets of numbers. The organiser, the Esports Foundation, claims 175,000 tickets sold (up 94% on 2025), more than 2 million visits (visits, not unique people), and 850 million viewers and 440 million hours watched (Inven Global, PocketGamer.biz). We could not find a primary release for the viewership claim. Esports Charts, via GamesBeat and Insider Gaming, counts 237 million hours watched (up 29.5%), an average of 145,100 live viewers, and a peak slightly below the 2025 record. The two use different scopes, so do not compare them directly. On Esports Charts’ count, MSC (Mobile Legends) was the biggest event, at a peak of 2.89 million.

Local Insight: Malaysia at EWC 2026
Honor of Kings: bronze. Geekay Esports, whose Honor of Kings roster the EWC release identifies as Malaysian, beat Team Nemesis 4-1 in the quarter-final, lost 0-4 to eventual champions Kuaishou Gaming in the semi-final, then beat fellow Malaysian side ROC Esports 3-0 for third place on 8 August, winning US$280,000 and 500 club points (EWC press release). ROC Esports finished fourth; we found no reported prize. Aurora Gaming, reportedly on a Malaysian roster, lost its quarter-final to AG.AL and finished 5th to 8th.
Mobile Legends, MSC. Selangor Red Giants went out in the group stage (9th to 12th) and Team Vamos lost the quarter-final 0-3 to the champions, Spirit (5th to 8th). The full story is in our MSC 2026 results. Note that the Geekay in MSC (13th to 16th) is a different roster from the Malaysian Honor of Kings team.
Women’s Mobile Legends. Team Rey Young, on their EWC debut, won both group games 2-0 and lost the quarter-final 0-2 to NAVI PH on 17 July. Coach Frost said: “Don’t blame the players. It’s on me” (NST).
We found no Malaysian team in Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Valorant, EA Sports FC, chess, Tekken, Street Fighter 6, Teamfight Tactics, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2 or League of Legends. By that reading Malaysia took no gold or silver in any of the 25 tournaments. The prize figures below the podium come from published prize ladders, not payout reports.
What It Means
Malaysian colours did better in Japan a few weeks later: at the Asian Games, Malaysia won five esports medals including a first esports gold (see our medal breakdown). For how the EWC was previewed, see our guide and Paris explainer.
