Deep Dive: How MSC 2026 Was Won
Team Spirit beat Yangon Galacticos of Myanmar 4-3 in the grand final on 1 August 2026 in Paris, taking US$1 million and 1,000 Club Championship points (EWC press release). It is the first time a team from outside Southeast Asia has won an official international MLBB major, per Moonton. EXP laner Mathaios “Kid Bomba” Chatzilakos was named Finals MVP.
The final was close. Spirit led 3-1, Yangon won games five and six to level the series at 3-3, and Spirit took game seven (EWC, Fragster). Spirit swept both of its playoff series before the final, 3-0 over Team Vamos in the quarter-final and 3-0 over ONIC in the semi-final.
ONIC of Indonesia took third place with a 3-0 win over Team Falcons PH in the third-place match. The prize pool was US$3 million.
The format. Sixteen teams played in Paris in two groups of eight, using GSL double-elimination best-of-three series, from 22 to 26 July. The top four in each group advanced to single-elimination best-of-five knockouts from 29 July to 1 August, with a best-of-seven final. Group winners picked their quarter-final opponents (Moonton). MSC 2026 was the Mobile Legends event inside the Esports World Cup, and it was the first MSC held in Europe after the tournament moved from Riyadh (Wikipedia).
The playoffs. Quarter-finals: Yangon 3-0 PRO Esports, Team Falcons PH 3-1 Team Vitality, Spirit 3-0 Team Vamos, ONIC 3-2 Aurora. Semi-finals: Yangon 3-2 Team Falcons PH, Spirit 3-0 ONIC.
Local Insight: What Happened to SRG and Vamos
Only two Malaysian teams qualified, both from MPL Malaysia Season 17: champions Selangor Red Giants (SRG) and runners-up Team Vamos. Our watch guide and the franchise-model explainer cover how they got there.
SRG, 9th to 12th. In Group B, SRG lost 1-2 to PRO Esports on 23 July, beat Geekay 2-1 in the lower bracket on 25 July, then lost 0-2 to ONIC on 26 July in the lower-bracket decider (GosuGamers). Unii replaced Sekys at jungle from game three against Geekay. It ended with a 3-5 game record and US$65,000, a long way from 2024, when SRG won MSC, and 2025, when they finished runners-up. NST analyst Laphel said SRG “read the meta really wrong… They trained wrongly” (NST); that is one analyst’s opinion, not a finding. The SRG v ONIC match set the group-stage viewership record (below).
Team Vamos, 5th to 8th. In Group A, Vamos beat Team Falcons (MENA) 2-0 on 22 July and then beat Spirit 2-0 in the upper-bracket final on 24 July, advancing without dropping a series (RTM). Before the group stage, coach Valdo said a flight delay of up to 12 hours left the team only one light training session (RTM). In the quarter-final on 30 July they met Spirit again and lost 0-3. Hotspawn reports Vamos chose Spirit as their opponent, which we could not confirm from a second source. They shared 5th to 8th and US$100,000 with Vitality, Aurora and PRO Esports, and were the last Malaysian team left.
We have not printed Vamos’ five-player line-up for Paris, because the sources we found disagree on it. Prize figures for the sub-podium places come from the published prize ladder rather than reported payouts.
Why It Matters
The winner. Spirit’s title ends Southeast Asian dominance of MSC. The runner-up, Yangon Galacticos, was Myanmar’s first international MLBB final in five years, and only the second for a Myanmar team after Burmese Ghouls at M2 in 2021 (EWC press release). Myanmar then won MLBB gold at the Asian Games on 1 October (see our bronze recap, where Malaysia took bronze).
The audience. The group stage passed 2 million peak concurrent viewers for the first time, 2,010,159 during ONIC v SRG, per Moonton and Medcom, using Esports Charts data as of 26 July. For the whole event, Moonton quotes Esports Charts at a peak of about 2.9 million and about 45 million hours watched, the most of any tournament at EWC 2026 (Moonton); we could not read Esports Charts directly.
The defending champions. Team Liquid PH, the 2025 champions, went out in the group stage with no game wins, finishing 13th to 16th.
